One student, Grant Rice is frustrated at losing an arcade game and demands a refund from the owner. The book is an agglomeration of the writings of these students, inspired by their teacher, to write about the experiences they had to undergo due to the racial tensions and violence existing in the society. Meanwhile, Gruwell asks her students to write their diaries in book form. Moreover, Erin encourages them to keep a daily journal of their thoughts and experiences as she knows that a lot is going on in their everyday lives. In reaction to this, Erin takes on two more occupations in order to finance the expenses of correct books herself.

Doing such task is not easy, but she challenges herself to make that. Meanwhile, Gruwell asks their students to write their diaries in book form.
But it does give hope. Gruwell tries to help her and her classmates with their hardships. She takes on part-time jobs to buy books for the students and spends late nights working in the classroom. We had to write an entry every day a page or more long, like Anne Frank and like The Freedom Writers did. In Freedom Writers, students struggle with racism and identity. With the unconditional support of Gruwell, Marcus changed immensely throughout the movie, and was finally able to move back into his home when his mom saw how much he has changed.
