My most favorite part of the book was when he one a championship with a last second buzzer-beater. The story takes place in Chicago, Illinois and Birmingham, Alabama. Despite the slow start in the beginning, it caught up towards the middle of the book. I think Gates' decision making and accepting reality at a young age spoke volumes about his character.
They are two African American kids that grew up in Chicago, Illinois. They traveled to school together every morning neither of them lived near the school. Paul grew up surrounded by teachers and from there knew that education was important. But I Think the Authors purpose between William and Arthur is William is the all-American who does ok in school but injuries kick in. What makes this book unique is that it is not just an average book about basketball, it deals with outside world context such as poorness, drugs, gangs, race segregation, pregnancy, and abuse. Arthur Agee and William Gates are two basketball players, and they are the main characters. I would definitely recommend this book and i don't even like reading.
This book is a very good book. I am interested in basketball, so there was already some appeal. I was drawn to this book, because I am a basketball player. I think people would enjoy this book if they like to read about real life stories and and what they go through because some people can relate to that book. This story is very exciting and sad which kept me interested. Joes he begin to tell stories about how his father use to be a successful drug dealer until he got locked up now he does alot of drugs himself. This Book didn't win a litrary award.
